Week 2

We have successfully made it through a full week of school! I was pretty tired after this week but I'm thankful I was able to catch up on some sleep this weekend. I hope everyone was able to spend some time with family and catch up on sleep too. I graded all the spelling tests this weekend and I was so proud of how well everyone did! I will get those back early this week. We will have another spelling test this Friday (9/3). I will post the words below, but your child will also have them written in their planner. We will be starting science this week which I am very excited about! Hopefully, this week will be a little cooler.

Mr. Peabody's Apples Activity

Today we read the book, Mr. Peabody's Apples. This book is about a young boy named Tommy who thinks he caught his baseball coach stealing apples. Tommy went around town telling everyone that Mr. Peabody was stealing apples. The rumor eventually got back to Mr. Peabody who later found out that Tommy was spreading that rumor. Tommy told Mr. Peabody how sorry he was and wanted to know what he could do to make it up to him. Mr. Peabody asked him to bring a pillowcase full of feathers and to meet him at the baseball field. When they both got there, Mr. Peabody asked Tommy to cut open the pillowcase and let the feathers fly out. Tommy did what he was asked and the feathers went all over the baseball field. Mr. Peabody then asked him to go pick up every single feather. Tommy said it was impossible to pick up every feather. Mr. Peabody said these feathers represent all the false rumors that were spread about him and that it is impossible to take it back once it is already said.
We talked about how quickly rumors can get spread and how they leave a lasting effect on the person. We did a demonstration this afternoon with glitter. One person started with glitter and handed it to another person and so on. This represents rumors being spread and how it eventually gets to everyone. We also learned how the glitter (rumor) is VERY hard to get off and can stay with a person forever.

Week 1

 Hello!

We are now three days into the new school year and I have really enjoyed getting to know your child! Last week we did lots of "get to know you" activities and we reviewed school and classroom procedures. This week we will follow a regular schedule and begin classwork. Each week your child will have their spelling words written in their planner. I will also include the spelling words in my blog each week. Please make sure to study these with your child every night. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Also, please make sure to send your child's planner and purple folder with them every single day.

I wanted to thank everyone for getting all those forms back to me on Wednesday from Meet the Teacher Night. You are amazing and I appreciate you so much!!
